The Park Wood Festival
Park Wood
Waterlooville
*****Saturday 11 May 2013*****
Me and Alan Gibson (The Urbane Forager) are doing a guided walk through Park Wood and we are pointing out trees that are good for foraging. I am also spotting/identifying/telling people the names of/telling people facts about the other plants, the mammals and THE BIRDS. All I hope is that the people (mini kids are welcome) shut up and understand the fact that birds do not take readily to disturbance and that they must watch their step because for all they know they could have trodden on a Woodcock (not me, the bird) although if it is not nesting it will be flushed first.
THERE IS A WOODCOCK IN THIS PHOTO!!! Spot the Woodcock. |
Here is the Woodcock. See how easy it is to step on one now?
Email buckleypjn@btopenwortld.com or contact Jackie Buckley,
Please come with your bins, scope, camera, a packet of lindors or digestives and anything else. Watch out for camouflaged ground-nesters and keep the gobs shut as to not frighten the birds and other animals. No picking wildflowers or anything that is not edible and tell your mini kids to shush too and learn some proper technical things about SPECIFIC bird species and their habitats, habits, plumage, taxonomy, nesting periods, breeding displays, diets, calls, songs, and anything else they NEED to know. Believe me, some kids HAVE TO learn more about and appreciate the natural world. Byee. Good birding, hope you come!
