"Bird Facts!"
On the Langstone Ark website there was some interesting new facts. I know the Peregrine is the fastest bird in the world in a stoop, but it is taken over by the Common Eider in level flight, but on the Langstone Ark, it is said that the Red-breasted Merganser beats even the Eider! Well, the conclusion is... the feather makes such a fantastic aerofoil that we have some very fast avian friends among us! On Top Gear (I love it) they raced a trained Peregrine against some of the fastest cars in the world and the Peregrine (a tiercel) owned them like a boss every time! And that was in level flight. I'd like to see them put an Eider or a Red-breasted Merganser up against those cars!
an epic shot of a tiercel Peregrine. I couldn't find the photographer's full name, but they called themselves "auf". |
